My New Years Resolution

My new year resolution was not a diet or an exercise program. I know lame!

My new year resolution was to work on crafts and do more diy projects around my house. I’ve been away for a while because I’ve been busy crafting. I wanted to share some of my projects through pictures and I hope you are inspired. I started my year with painting a vintage gold frame to a brown color. The vintage style is nice but I can’t too much of the gold tones. I really love the painting but the gold was bringing out more gold tones out of the picture and it was hurting my eyes. Once I painted the frame, if muted those tones, and I think it looks good. What do you think? I used a nickel bronze over the gold.

I also repurposed some Goodwill finds with free printables I found on Pinterest, and now every month I will be changing my prints with the monthly theme. My Valentines prints are not very color festive but I really like the clean design of the chalkboard back ground in the print.

Talking about chalkboard, I wanted to show off my favorite project…

I decided to create a chalkboard wall/door. I was undecided but we chose the door to the laundry room, and I think it came out pretty good. Here are the pictures 🙂

In case you couldn’t tell, this is the before picture 😉

Now, how do I tell the toddler to only chalk on the door NOT the wall : /

And here it is, my chalkboard door!

And then I thought this chalkboard door is to blah! It needed something extra and I went back to the craft store and found these wooden frames. I taped them to the wall for placement purposes, and once I decided that I liked the idea I painted them with grey chalkboard paint and attached them to the door with nail glue. Voila!

This was fun!

Ava Anderson Skin – Review/Giveaway

Ava Anderson Non-Toxic offers a varied selection of safe personal and home care products. If you visit the  Cosmetics Database you’ll notice that her products rate 0-2 on the toxicity scale. I was very excited to test her products, so I received the AVA SKIN line and their very popular diaper cream from AVA BABY. Due to sickness I had to wait a few days to try it; I didn’t realize how bad sinus OTC meds and breastfeeding a toddler were really taking a toll on my skin [insert surprised emoticon]. My skin is normally pretty dry so I was desperately hoping to trap in some moisture. Now my main concern with many beauty products are endocrine disruptors; but what sets this company apart are the ingredients they use in their products.

The cosmetic industry and petrochemical companies have fought efforts in Congress to reform cosmetic industry regulations, which were first drawn up in 1938 and have remained virtually unchanged.

Cleanser: This cleanser has a really nice citrus smell and a gel like consistency. I really love the smell and the refreshed clean feeling. There are no suds in this cleanser, because these products are sulfate free and that is great! I don’t wear make-up, so I really don’t know how it removes make up residue, but I am sure you can use make-up removing pads first 😉

Ingredients: aloe barbadensis (organic aloe vera) extract, rosa damascena (organic rose) flower extract, cucumis sativus (organic cucumber) extract, coco glucoside, arctostaphylos uva-ursi (organic bearberry) leaf extract, raphanus sativus (radish root) extract, xanthan gum, citrus sinensis (organic sweet orange essential) oil, vitrus medica limonum (organic lemon essential) oil, citrus paradisi (organic pink grapefruit) essential oil

Exfoliator: The exfoliator also has a very pleasant smell, and a rich grainy consistency. It didn’t feel like I was scraping my face, it was gentle yet strong enough to buff away dry skin.

Ingredients: Yucca Root Extract helps replenish moisture and smoothness of skin, and also has mild cleansing properties and anti-inflammatory benefits. Punica Granatum Seed Oil is derived from pomegranate, providing a potent natural anti-oxidant. Shea Butter provides beneficial effects of anti-irritancy, anti-inflammatory and enhanced UV-B protection. Scrub leaves skin moisturized, protected, fresh and radiant. Ingredients: barbadensis leaf juice (organic aloe), yucca glauca root extract (organic yucca), glyceryl stearate, prunus armeniaca (organic apricot) seed powder, butyrospermum parkii (organic shea butter), carthamus tinctorious (organic safflower) oleosome, citrus aurantium dulcis (organic orange) peel oil, punica granatum (organic pomegranate) seed oil, sucrose stearate, aspalathus linearis (organic rooibos) leaf extract, azadirachta indica (organic neem) seed extract, xantham gum

Toner: Unlike other toners that are alcohol based, this one is non-drying and non stinging with is moisturizing ingredients like witch hazel and yucca. This toner is probably my favorite product from this whole line. I really enjoy spraying it on my face for instant freshness.

Ingredients: Yucca is a natural non-toxic antiseptic and witch hazel works to open pores to remove impurities. Ingredients: water, hamamelis virginiana (organic witch hazel) yucca glauca root extract(organic yucca), citrus aurantium amara (organic bitter orange) flower water, lonicera japonica flower extract (japanese honeysuckle)

Moisturizer: The moisturizer was also very rich and thick, it wasn’t runny like other moisturizers. This was something I definitely needed for my dry skin. It was absorbed very quickly and there is no sticky feeling. I applied it immediately after the toner to trap in the moisture.

Ingredients: aloe barbadensis (organic aloe leaf) extract, rosa damscena (organic rose) flower extract, olea europaea (olive wax), oryza sativa (organic rice bran) oil, helianthus annuus (organic sunflower) seed oil, camellia sinensis (organic green leaf tea) extract, royal jelly extract, persea gratissima (organic avocado) oil, raphanus sativus (radish root) extract, medica limonum (organic lemon) essential oil, citrus sinensis (organic sweet orange) essential oil, citrus paradisi (organic pink grapefruit) essential oil

Anti-Aging Night Serum: I was very happy to have received this serum and all I can say is that this is my first (or second) most favorite product. I can’t decide!

Ingredients: limnanthes alba (organic meadowfoam seed) oil, radix daucus carota (organic helio carrot root) oil, rosa rubginosa (organic rose hip seed) oil, hippophae rhamnoides (organic sea buckthorn) oil, ubliquinone (COQ10), citrus paradise (organic pink grapefruit) oil

Lip Balm: I also received the spearmint flavor lip balm and I thought they were perfectly scented for this time of the year.

Ingredients: butyrosepermum parkii (organic shea butter), cocos nucifera (organic coconut oil), organic beeswax, helianthus annuuss (organic sunflower seed oil), prunus amygdalus dulcis (organic sweet almond oil), menthe viridis (organic spearmint leaf oil).

Diaper Cream: This diaper cream its not just for your baby’s bottom. This diaper cream is a GREAT moisturizer, and I absolutely love it. I’ve been using it for a couple of nights as a hand cream, and I am very pleased. It is also good for eczema and dry patches, and it smells really good.

Ingredients: chamomilla recutita (organic chamomile) flower extract, aloe barbadensis (organic aloe vera) juice extract, olea europaea (organic olive) oil, butyrospermum parkii (organic shea) butter, cocos nucifera (organic coconut) oil, persea gratissima (organic avocado seed) oil, raphanus sativus (radish root extract), zinc oxide (non nanoparticle), calendula officinalis (organic calendula) flower extract, vanilla planifolia bean extract, citrus sinensis (organic sweet orange) essential oil.

I really enjoyed testing each one of these products. They are rich in anti-oxidants and vitamins, they contain no parabens, no triclosan, no synthetics fragrances or dyes and there are no harmful chemicals for humans or the environment and they are not tested on animals. Knowing all this made me feel good about testing them, promoting them to you and offering them as a giveaway.

Second Chance Toys

These days the headlines are overwhelming us with stories of hatred, anger and violence; and they are so difficult to avoid. I recently removed a few news apps from my phone and unsubscribed from news reports, celebrity gossip pages that were showing up on my Facebook feed constantly. Facebook depression is real and reading all the negativity was bringing me down. But I am not here to dispirit you or to remind you of what is going on in the world. I am here to share what brings a smile to my face, Volunteering! –  last year my family and I volunteered for an organization called Second Chance Toys, and this year we did it again.

Second Chance Toys is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation founded in 2006 to rescue and recycle plastic toys for children in need by donating them to community organizations. Because non biodegradable plastic is kept out of our landfills, Second Chance Toys is helping the environment at the same time.

Volunteering, really brings our family closer and we enjoy knowing that we are helping others, specially children. We registered as collectors for Second Chance Toys once again, and through word of mouth to friends and neighbors we gathered used toys (in excellent working condition) for children in need. This year we collected toys for BCAP – Burlington County Action Program – Headstart. We collected plush toys, blocks, dolls, baby toys, puzzles, books, musical instruments, doll houses, toy cars and more… My little elves helped me clean and sort everything, and my husband helped deliver the toys. Here are some pictures of our experience, and we are once again glad to have organize this collection.

I would love for this toy collection to grow. If you have a location, where we can get together and organize a toy collection for Second Chance Toys, please email me and we can talk out the details for the next Holiday Season. Happy Holidays!

Tiggly Counts Review

We received Tiggly Counts and my daughter who is a first grader immediately opened it, and my toddler who is 12 months immediately wanted to chew on them. But I am relieved that Tiggly Counts meets all industry safety standards. They have NO hard corners, small parts, electronics, or batteries, and they are made of a soft, flexible, and non-hazardous silicone. We grabbed our iPad where I had downloaded all Tiggly apps, and she was instantly engaged. Her favorite app is Tiggly Chef (available for free on the App store). Tiggly Counts truly is a fun math toy and you can’t really explain it unless you experience watching your child interact with it. It kept my daughter’s interest for a while, I was able to make dinner!!!

This has to be the best product I have seen on the market of its kind. The shapes are perfect for little hands, it is fun and educational and it won’t damage your iPad screen. I definitely recommend this toy as a gift this holiday season.

Tiggly Counts can be used with the following FREE iPad apps:

  • Tiggly Addventure: Tiggly sets off an adventure to deliver the most delicious apple in Tiggly Town to his beloved grandmother! Along the way, Tiggly will need you to use your counting toys to build bridges, ladders, and much more to help him overcome challenges on the land, sea, and even outer space!
  • Tiggly Cardtoons: A world of playful and surprising learning comes alive at the speed of imagination as your child uses their counting toys. Two pieces of cardboard become a juggling owl, or a hungry shark with a taste for apples, or a rumbling truck carrying… snakes?!
  • Tiggly Chef: Emergency in the kitchen! Tiggly Town’s greatest, most mustachioed Chef needs help, and only you and your counting toys can prepare his preposterously silly recipes. Think you can beat the Chef at his own game? Devise your own kooky culinary concoctions in one of Chef’s three kitchens!

Screen Shot 2014-11-24 at 9.43.14 PM

Tiggly Counts (normally $29.95) is the first math toy designed for preschoolers on the tablet. Each set of Counts comes with 5 colorful counting toys, a felt carrying pouch, and three FREE award-winning apps that teach important early-math concepts like addition, number line, and counting in a fun and tangible way.

This Black Friday

I absolutely love Freecycle. This week, I received a small corner 3 tier shelve from a woman who was considering putting it out to the curb. I was able to pick up the piece before trash day, I restore it and retouched it; with some fresh chalk (color: primitive paint. This project took me about 4 hours, and I am very pleased.

I am really enjoying restoring furniture. I have one more table that I’ve been working on. I really want to finish it before the temperatures drop. I can’t wait to post pictures!

Wampum Home

You know that old saying, one man’s junk is another’s treasure.  Well, TRUTH is

Recently I started joining facebook yardsales (oh yes, virtual yard sales)  type in your Town name and yard sale or virtual yard sale and see what pops up in your area. (my cousin Cheryl turned me on to the yard sale thing) Amazing deals and great for kids, home improvement projects. You can also post “ISO” (took me a bit to figure ISO means IN SEARCH OF)  Working on a sewing project ? post : ISO fabric remnants. Here I go rambling again, this post, about  was inspired by a recent comment I made on a pillow post by Lorela of Life with Lorelai. Lorelai rocks all her posts, take a minute to click on this link and see what she has share…

I received some Re-play tableware in exchange for writing a review. The package included plates, bowls and utensils.
